Description

The portrait has been identified speculatively as a member of the Tailor family, the former owners of Doddington Hall. Stylistically, and in format, it would appear to be influenced by Kneller’s portraits of members of the Kit-Cat Club, for example Joseph Addison,1 and dates presumably to around the same period. The handling, which is inferior to Kneller’s, is relatively crude and formulaic.
