Description

This decorative painting, set into the wall over the fireplace in the Drawing Room, dates probably from the earlier eighteenth century. It is almost certainly by the same artist who completed the ruinscape set into the mirror frame in the Oak Parlour (TN5).

The inventory of March 1928, which located the picture in the Drawing Room, described it as: ‘Italian Landscape School – extensive landscape, ruins, figure and cattle in foreground, hills in background, 27in by 40 in – framed in wall’.
