Description
This view depicts the eighteenth-century aqueduct in the city of Lisbon, a remarkable example of Portuguese engineering. Construction started in 1731 and was completed in the middle of the century. Remarkably, it survived the Lisbon earthquake of 1755. Pillement probably shows a section over the Alcantara valley; as with its pendant, TN36, which shows another famous Lisbon landmark, the foreground is populated with figures in Portuguese dress.
