Description

This attractive pair of cabinet paintings (see TN16) were made by the Flemish artist Henricus Antonissen and are signed and dated 1773 and 1776. Antonissen, who was born in Antwerp in 1737, entered the studio of Balthazar Besohey in 1752. A prolific landscape painter, he is best known for rural scenes with peasant figures and animals. He was received into the painters’ guild, of which he twice became master.
