Description
Margaret Lowth was the eldest daughter of theologian William Lowth (1660–-1732) and Margaret Pitt. She married the Reverend John Sturges (born 1685), prebendary of Winchester Cathedral. The portrait came to Doddington through the Jarvis family in the nineteenth century. An attribution to Thomas Hudson is suggested on stylistic grounds.
