Description
This seems to be a typical production by the artist or, more probably, association of artists generally known as Pseudo Pier Francesco Fiorentino, which produced well-crafted artisanal adaptations of compositions by others, often Lippesque. The present example, which might adapt a composition by Antonio Rosellino, is in good condition and in its original tabernacle. It typifies a kind of attractive technically skilled work made extensively for domestic settings.
There seems to be no documentation for this painting, which is not mentioned by Garnett; but the Graham collection did include four pictures (Garnett, d258–d261) given to Pseudo Pier Francesco, none of which remains at Mells.
